Admission Process

Gifted learners have many different academic profiles, strengths, and passions. Our admission process is dynamic in nature so that we can get to know each applicant individually and evaluate if The Sage School is the right fit for a student.

Come and See Us!
Tours and open house events are the best way to get to know the school and have your personal questions addressed. Children are welcome at both a private tour or open house events.

Applying to The Sage School
Our application is entirely online. To begin your child’s application, simply click on the “APPLY” button. You will be asked to create an account with a username and password. By having the account you are able to complete the application all at one time or return to complete it after gathering all the necessary information. This will also allow the Admission Office to directly communicate with you on needed items or follow up on next steps. You will also be notified of your admission decision through this portal.

Student Visit Days
Once an application is submitted, the Admission Office will invite prospective students for a formal Student Visit Day. This visit is intended for applicants to experience a typical school day and meet other students and teachers. During the visit, a faculty member in the grade to which you are applying will meet with your child for an academic assessment to get a sense of where your child is academically. The assessment is informal, age-appropriate, and allows the child to share his/her skills in literacy, mathematics, and creative thinking. Assessments generally run about 30 minutes to one hour depending upon the child’s age. Applicants visiting will in Grades 3 through 7 will enjoy a Student Ambassador who will accompany them throughout the day, making introductions and shadowing their schedule.

Standardized Testing
All applicants for grades K through 8 are required to take a standardized entrance exam, which are widely used by independent schools and are offered through the Educational Records Bureau (ERB). Applicants for Kindergarten and Grade 1 are required to take the Admissions Assessment for Beginning Learners (AABL). Applicants for Grades 2 through 8 are required to take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). The Sage School is now an ERB testing center and will offer testing on several dates throughout the year for all students looking to take either the AABL or ISEE (you do not need to be a Sage applicant to register here). If you are applying to The Sage School and would like to test on another date, we are happy to schedule a day for your child.

For more information on ERB tests or to register for testing, visit https://www.erblearn.org.

Teacher Evaluations and School Transcripts
Teacher evaluations are a standard form from the Association of Independent Schools of New England. Teachers are asked to complete this form and send it directly to the Admissions Office at The Sage School. These forms are confidential between your child’s teachers and Sage. They help us see work habits and social behaviors, as well as academic mastery at their current grade level.
