Student Spotlight: Celebrating Musical Excellence with Annie N.
The Sage School community recently had the privilege of experiencing an extraordinary musical moment when Annie N., a Grade 5 student and talented cellist, performed for students, faculty, and staff ahead of a very special milestone in her musical journey.
Annie was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall as part of The Crescendo International Competition Winners Recital, where she earned First Place—a remarkable achievement that reflects both her dedication and her artistry. Before taking the stage in New York City, Annie generously shared her performance with the Sage community, offering classmates and teachers a glimpse into the level of focus, discipline, and passion that defines her work as a young musician.

Annie’s performance was a celebration of individual accomplishment and a reflection of Sage’s commitment to nurturing students’ talents beyond the classroom. Through Sage’s strings program, students are encouraged to develop technical skills while also building confidence, perseverance, and a deep appreciation for music as a form of expression.
Music teacher Ms. Apolloni plays a key role in guiding and supporting students throughout their musical development. Her instruction emphasizes both musical excellence and joyful engagement, helping students like Annie grow as performers while fostering a supportive environment that values dedication and creativity.
Reflecting on Annie’s impact, Ms. Apolloni shared, “While Annie does work with me on difficult and challenging music, Annie’s greatest impact at Sage has been through her collaboration and teaching other students. Annie is friendly, kind, knowledgeable, and helpful with her peers in strings class, and often buzzes around helping each group in their chamber projects.”
This spirit of collaboration is a hallmark of Sage’s strings program. Students are not only developing advanced musical skills, but also learning how to lead, mentor, and support one another—skills that resonate far beyond the stage.
Opportunities like this—where students can share their passions with the broader school community—are an integral part of the Sage experience. Annie’s performance served as an inspiration to students across grade levels and highlighted how Sage supports young learners as they pursue advanced opportunities in academics, the arts, and beyond.
We are incredibly proud of Annie for her hard work, her poise, and her impressive achievement, and we wish her continued success as she continues her musical journey.
